Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2012 published

Brussels, 6 November – European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry have released the Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2012 – the first regional ratings published since 2009. The report makes use of the methodology from the Innovation Union scoreboard and evaluates 190 regions from the EU-27, Croatia, Norway and Switzerland.
 
The report divides regions into one of four types: Innovation Leaders (41 regions), Innovation Followers (58), Moderate Innovators (39) and Modest Innovators (52), showing considerable diversity in regional performance. In particular, northern and central regions showed strongest innovation capability.
