Energy efficiency design standard for buildings

Geneva, 19 January 2009 – A new design standard issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) tackles energy efficiency in buildings. The introduction of the standards in the design stages of buildings aims to contribute in the promotion of a holistic approach to design that encompasses short-term as well as long-term energy requirements and performance of new buildings.

The standard; ISO 23045:2008, Building environment design, Guidelines to assess energy efficiency of new buildings, sets requirements for the design process of buildings and building mechanical material aiming to increase their energy related performance and efficiency throughout their life-cycle. The standard is to help designers and practitioners in the collection and provision of data that is useful and accessible by relevant parties throughout the different stages of the design and construction process.
