9 May, Brussels – European Commission, DG Energy is set to begin talks on new ecodesign standards in the next few weeks, focusing on new rules for domestic appliances, lighting, power generation devices and building insulation.

The talks on domestic appliances – fridges, freezers, dishwashers and washing machines, in particular – will be informed by an ‘Omnibus Study’ produced for the Commission, which shows the potential for future performance improvements.

A consultation will also take place on possible options for addressing machine tools, including a points system for energy efficiency improvements and a voluntary industry initiative. A further meeting will discuss industrial ovens and furnaces.
