Brussels, 24 January – The European Commission has launched a package of measures to encourage the build-up of clean fuel stations across Europe. The package seeks to set common standards for the design and use of fuel stations, with previous policy initiatives having only addressed vehicles and fuels themselves.
Brussels, 24 January – The European Commission has launched a package of measures to encourage the build-up of clean fuel stations across Europe. The package seeks to set common standards for the design and use of fuel stations, with previous policy initiatives having only addressed vehicles and fuels themselves.
The Commission has proposed binding targets on member states for a minimum level of infrastructure for clean fuels, as well as EU wide standards for equipment. It hopes that the legislative package will encourage growth in the clean fuel market by breaking the vicious circle of high vehicle costs, low consumer acceptance and a lack of fuelling points for clean fuels (electricity, hydrogen, biofuels and, liquefied and compressed natural gas).
The Clean Power for Transport Package consists of a Communication on a European alternative fuels strategy, a proposed Directive on infrastructure and standards and an accompanying document outlining Actions for the development of Liquefied natural gas in shipping.
