InvestEU to provide €11 billion in guarantees for research and innovation

Strasbourg – The InvestEU Programme will guarantee €38 billion of loans and equity, including €11.25 billion for research and innovation, following an agreement reached by the EU institutions last week.

The aim of the programme is to encourage the European Investment Bank and other financial bodies to finance riskier projects by committing to repay bad loans and negative equity.

According to the European Commission this could help trigger €650 billion in additional investments.

Besides research and innovation, other eligible investments include sustainable infrastructure, and social investment and skills.
