10 June, Strasbourg – The European Parliament has dropped a demand for a binding resource efficiency target from its position on the upcoming Circular Economy Package. The full package is not expected until the end of the year, but MEPs are making their position known during the current consultation period.
Although the Parliament voted against the Environment Committee’s recommendation on the target, the full plenary did support targets for recycling and preparation for re-use at 70% of municipal waste by 2030, as well as for banning incineration of recyclable and biodegradable waste, and for separate collection of biowaste, by 2020.
