The Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE) is a non-profit legal entity that emerged as a bottom-up initiative since the early ’00’s from the continuous collaboration and interaction of regional players. Originally established in February 2014 by 21 initial members from the Triple Helix, it now spans more than 70 members from the local ecosystem, covering public authorities, R&D and academia, entrepreneurship, social enterprises and environmental organisations. It offers an ideal test bed in the form of pilots or demos in the area, by involving the right mix of regional actors for many topics, including bioeconomy, circular economy, renewable energy and storage, climate neutrality, environment, social innovation, and many other sustainability sectors, in order to support the transition of the Region of Western Macedonia, Greece from a fossil-based to a greener, more sustainable economy in Greece and beyond.

CluBE mainly works with EU projects (more than 50 active, by August 2025), supported by approximately 60 personnel members.
